After a two-year stint away from the Central League, the Harriton Rams are back with a revamped team. Last season, on an independent schedule, the Rams finished 5-5, securing wins against Samuel Fels, Roxborough, Lower Moreland, New Hope-Solebury, and Mahanoy Area. However, they lost against a robust Lower Merion team. This year, the Rams hope to have a strong outing back in the Central League under new head coach Mario Dattilo and a new mentality.
Last Friday’s game was the first test for this new-look Harriton team, but they didn’t look as strong as I had hoped. The Rams fell 0-19 against an average Bristol Warriors squad. Harriton will need to bounce back stronger for their game at Radnor this upcoming Friday.
Sam’s Game Observations
Let’s start with the positives:
- Harriton’s defense looked strong despite few returning players. Their ability to hold Bristol to 19 points speaks to the potential on that side of the ball.
- #5 Musyn Dennis had a great showing with multiple sacks, TLFS, a forced fumble, and a blocked kick. He is a great defensive player and leader of the program.
- Freshmen Finn McCloud and Ryan Zheng had solid first games, showcasing their potential and giving us hope for the program’s future.
- Harriton had a great trick play, which resulted in a massive gain for the Rams.
Improvements that need to be made:
- The Rams’ offense struggled to find its rhythm against Bristol’s defense. Harriton must adjust to get the offense back on track for Friday’s game against Radnor. Scoring will be crucial; the team must find ways to convert their efforts into points.
- Wide receiver Colin Sullivan needs to be utilized more effectively. He can potentially be a pivotal solution to some of the offensive challenges Harriton faced in the game.
- Special teams’ punting is another area that needs attention. The punter struggled with cramps, leading to several punts under 20 yards. Harriton must ensure their punter is fully fit for the upcoming games or find a reliable alternative.
Radnor Game Prediction
Harriton faces a tough challenge against Radnor, who is coming off a blowout win against a heavily favored Chichester. Despite Radnor’s struggles last season, they have shown improvement, and this game will not be easy. If Harriton’s offense can find its footing, we could see a close and competitive game, especially with the Rams’ defense holding firm.
Prediction: Harriton 10 – Radnor 14
